Salta and the Train to the Clouds

Salta Capital is ideal for staying in it and enjoying it from the moment we leave the hotel and
start walking. Museums, churches, historic buildings, squares with their cafes, and various
walks allow us to see the colonial influence, which is appreciated in architecture and in one
of the most protected historic centers in Argentina. Here, without a doubt, the past is
preserved.
To the west, are the Andes Mountains and the Puna, with its incredible La Polvorilla viaduct
and the Train to the Clouds. To the south, the Calchaquí Valleys. To the north, the Salta
Chaco, whose endless greens resemble the very Misiones jungle.
Unique in landscapes, to each incomparable site is added its gastronomic excellence that is
manifested in flavors, colors, and aromas typical of this region of the world. Here “cumin” is
gold and such is the goodness of Salteños that locros, tamales, and empanadas have part
of this beautiful treasure.

From the city of Salta to the rest of the province, the options are also paradisiacal: nearby
destinations such as Cachi and Cafayate, or more distant ones such as Salinas Grandes and
the road to them, are excursions already known worldwide, and with enough merits to
extend the tourist’s stay for several more days.

The famous Train to the Clouds The train opens the sky to its passengers and transmits in the
immensity of the landscape a myriad of sensations: amazement and stillness, contrasting
colors, and of course the experience of a unique national icon where magic reaches 4,220
meters above sea level in the region of the Salta puna. This experience combines routes by
road and rail, where you can enjoy the landscapes and Andean culture while benefiting
local and tourist development in the regions of Quebrada del Toro and Puna. This tour has as
an exclusive attraction the ascent by train from San Antonio de los Cobres to the famous La
Polvorilla Viaduct.
